Where Has the REVERENCE and AWESOMENESS of God Gone?

I want to begin this study with a question:  Do you ever feel like something has changed in your life where maybe you used to get excited about something and then, it has just become part of the day in/day out a mundane living?

It seems the longer we are occupied with something, the more it becomes a part of our life and the more likely that we become less excited over it.

Before I retired from the mechanical contracting business, people would ask me if my job was exciting and typically I would answer that it’s a job like any other.

But it wasn’t always that way.  It always was a daily challenge with the responsibilities that came with the different positions I held, but there was the daily excitement of accomplishing and succeeding and new things.  Doing my best was always in place because of the way I was raised, but going beyond the best and succeeding was thrilling.

Looking at Marriage Relationships

Before I was married, the excitement of talking to my intended on the phone, seeing her in person, the getting ready to go on a date, putting on cologne and nice clothes, looking my best, the getting married, the wedding night and honeymoon, even the first couple of years.

Then you get into a routine and the excitement and awe seem to fade.  And even in our relationship with God, the routine can set in without notice.

When you first become a Christian you couldn’t get enough of the Bible.  You wanted to be talking to others about Jesus whenever and wherever you had a chance.

And right now you’re still enjoying being in God’s Word, but the same AWE and EXCITEMENT isn’t always there.

Hebrews 12:28-29 (AMP)

If we are truly going to worship God in Spirit and Truth–to be true worshippers, there needs to be “reverence and AWE”.

“AWE” – Definition: “Fear mingled with reverence and wonder” (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia – 1996)

“AWE” –  “a very strong feeling of wonder, reverence (or fear) caused by something grand or powerful” (www.Wordsmyth.com)

I asked myself the question over the last several months: Am I worshipping on Sundays and the rest of the weekdays with AWE as it’s defined?  I have reverence for the Lord, but sometimes, I confess, I don’t have that sense of awe and wonder.

And when we lose a sense of awe of God, the scripture tells us that we fail to worship God acceptably.  I don’t know about where you are right now, but I want you, us, to return to a sense of being In AWE of God.  Maybe you’ve never experienced that sense, but it’s available for all.

To do that though. I think it’s important to ask ourselves some questions.  We know that it happens, but why does it happen? Why do we lose our sense of awe?

I believe as we become all too familiar with anything, including our own faith in God, it starts to become commonplace.

There is a balance for us to maintain.

As we grow with the Lord, our understanding and relationship with Him will grow as well and we become closer and more familiar.

We need to recognize that when we approach our heavenly Father with confidence and with closeness, as a child approaches his daddy (Abba), but at the same time, we need to approach with a sense of awe and wonder that we have God Almighty as our Father.

We need to avoid our faith becoming common, that we look at God as we sometimes look at our earthly fathers as someone who pays the bills and lets us borrow the car.

How do we do that?  How do we maintain or get back our sense of AWE for God?

I think it originates in our heads, in our thinking, or lack of thinking.

In my marriage, if I was thinking each and every day how blessed I am to have a wife who chose me to spend her life with, who is there making our house a home, and who cares for me and about me, I know I would have a better and more grateful attitude toward her than I sometimes do.

But it all starts in our minds.

And the same is true about our Godly relationship.

Our minds need to be focused on the relationship so that we can recapture our AWE for God.

Instead of just focusing on God, we need to be focusing on specific aspects of God and it starts by recognizing who God is.

I believe there are some specific things we need to focus on about who God is if we’re going to have that sense of excitement and AWE for God.

  1. RECOGNIZE GOD AS CREATOR.

The Scriptures support this approach as well.  Often when Awe is being discussed, it’s in context with Creation.

Job 25:2 (NIV)

[2] “Dominion and awe belong to God; He establishes order in the heights of heaven”

Psalm 33:6-9

God has made all of Creation, sustains all of Creation and if we stop to think about it, it’s absolutely unbelievable and awe-inspiring.  The problem is, we often don’t think about it because we live here and this too has become commonplace.

With that thought in mind, I want to take the time here to refocus on this place where we reside that God has made and created for our benefit.

  • The Universe–the vastness of the universe.
  • The Body–the intricacies of the design of the human body.

We have 30 to 100 trillion (with a “T”) cells in our body that work independently, yet must work in coordination with the other cells.  I’ve worked in offices for over 30 years where 10 people couldn’t work in coordination with each other. And yet, the body is self-healing; it has reproduction properties.

Beauty of Creation

So often in our world, it seems we need to give up beauty and creativity for functionality.  Not so with the world.

Our world not only functions orderly, but the BEAUTY of what God has created is amazing! And if we can keep our minds focused on the awesomeness of Who God is as Creator and recognize the awesomeness of His Creation on a daily basis, then I think we will go a long way toward having an AWE inspiring view of God.

Each day we should seek to view the Lord’s creation in a specific way that recognizes this awesomeness.

Each and every day, even on the way to church on Sunday morning…make it a point in the car to point out God’s awesomeness,  And by the way, it’s a great lesson for our children as well.

But we need to not only be AWED by God as Creator, but we also need to realize and recognize God as Judge  (Hebrews 28-29).

God is a “consuming fire” and He will JUDGE the world in regards to His Holiness.

That brings to mind, that “If one receives Jesus Christ as Savior, then they won’t be judged, right?”

You will not be judged to your salvation.  That’s a gift from God.

But each one of us is going to face the judgment seat of Christ in eternity for what we do in terms of our rewards in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:10).

For we must all appear and be revealed as we are before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive [his pay] according to what he has done in the body, whether good or evil [considering what his purpose and motive have been, and what he has achieved, been busy with, and given himself and his attention to accomplishing].  (Amplified Bible)

That’s for every one of us!

And because God is a JUDGE, we should stand in Awe of Him because of His JUDGMENT & AUTHORITY over us.

Just as we enter a courtroom we’re expected to show respect for the power and authority there and if we don’t we may be held in contempt and judged accordingly for those actions.

Therefore, with that premise in mind, should we show any less respect on Sunday morning worship–coffee mug in hand, baseball hats on our heads, Smart Phones checking out the latest sports scores, etc.?

We should always stand in Awe and respect of God for the One Who will JUDGE ALL of our actions and attitudes.  And as a Christian, even more so, we should stand in Awe of God as our Judge.

In addition to recognizing Who God is as Creator and Judge, which will help us stand in reverence and Awe, there’s one more thing I think is necessary for us to understand and focus on for standing in Awe and reverence of God, and that’s…

Recognizing who We  Are.

I believe it’s imperative that we have a proper view of ourselves for us to be able to have a proper view of God.

READ what the apostle Paul’s viewpoint regarding who he was and how it gave him a proper, awe-inspiring view of God:

1 Timothy 1:15-17What Paul is saying to me, perhaps to you as well, having a realistic view of our own sinfulness and how it should help us to be in Awe of God.

Are You Standing In Awe of God?

Maybe you have lost that Awe, or maybe you’ve never experienced the Awe at all, and in either case, you’ve been going through the motions of being a Christian and haven’t been feeling the Awe of God that you should be experiencing.  Here some suggestions that I’ve found to start with for all of us:

Open your eyes to God’s Creation and really see things around you.

  • Notice the sky and the Sun.
  • Notice the number of people driving our highways at all hours of the day and recognize God is the creation of each and every one of them and knows every hair on their head.

Think about God, the great and mighty judge of ALL MANKIND that will one day stand before us.

Be on Awe that we will stand in the presence of the greatest authority in the universe, greater than the Supreme Court of the land, with the Son Himself our mediator.

Recognize your own selfishness and the fact that God’s loves you and me anyway and still desires to use us even though we don’t deserve the privilege of being used in God’s plans in such an awesome way.

I want to pray for those who may be feeling a little unconnected from the Lord, that over these next days, weeks and months, that you might be awed by the Lord, God Almighty, our Savior and Judge, and find your self, standing in Awe of Him!

The NAYSAYERS and SCOFFERS ABOUND!

Scripture Text For This BLOG:  2 PETER 3:3-5

“ALL MATTERS FOR CHRISTIAN FAITH AND PRACTICE ARE FOUND IN THE BIBLE.”

Any “scoffers”, disbelievers yet?

Peter’s Critical Warning to Christian Believers – VERSE 3

This warning is to the church, of the SCOFFERS & NAYSAYERS that are here already, and the ones who are on their way.

The great turning point that divides mankind in two different groups are those who accept this Book, the Bible, and those who reject it.

It’s critical to know that in the LAST DAYS, there will be mockers of God’s Truth.

12716866_1129933190373473_1572461181_nIn the LAST DAYS, not only will God’s word be rejected, people will mock it!  They will disrespect or mock the TRUTH OF CHRIST JESUS by using their own misinterpretation that they want to be as the truth.

They scoff at God’s Word, not knowing that this very scoffing fulfills Bible prophecy.

Even though these people have always existed to threaten the church from its earliest days, their ungodly activity will increase in “the last days,” that period of time preceding Christ’s second coming.

Peter, John, Jude and Paul all make reference to the increase of false teachers, warning the church with passion not to be alarmed (1 John 2:18; Jude 18-19; 2 Timothy 3:1-5).

This contempt of the Scripture, God’s Word, and the terrible apostasy [from within the “church”] was also predicted by JESUS.  There was a question put by our LORD Jesus – Luke 18:8:

“When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

This scoffing at God’s TRUTH is the expected from this world’s system with one heresy leading to another, drawing mankind further and further away from their Creator.

Self-Willed People Will Doubt the Coming Again of Jesus – VERSE 4:

[4]  “Where is the promise of His coming?  For since the forefathers fell asleep, all things have continued exactly as they did from the beginning of creation.”

THE IMPLICATION:

“THERE IS NO SECOND COMING, we can live any way we want.  A loving God will never judge us.”

A Few EXAMPLES of Today’s Mockers and Scoffers of God’s Word:

Since America is right in the middle of a political season, a lot of ‘out of the heart’ statements (Proverbs 4:23) are being voiced.  Let me give you two examples.  One from a POLITICIAN and one from a PASTOR:

Nancy Pelosi, the House Minority Leader (D. Calif.) says,

“Hillary Clinton faces an uphill climb with white men because they are more influenced by hot-button social issues that they are by economic arguments because of guns, because of gays, and because of God, the three G’s.”  [Free Republic – PBS NewsHour interview.]

“Because of God”?  Really?  That’s a bad thing?

Erwin McManus, the lead pastor at Mosaic Church in Los Angeles, gives his views on what today’s Church should be:

“The church must acclimate to a changing world, or she will decline herself to irrelevance or even extinction…One of those dramatic changes in our environment is the shift from words to images.  To do church in a way that is entirely text driven is the kiss of death.”  [Erwin McManus “An Unstoppable Force, pg. 18]

Now that is interesting view, especially since the apostles taught just the opposite {Titus 1:9; Romans 16:17-18].

Those who mock and reject God’s written word–that our existence is the way it always has been since the beginning of CREATION or, in the case of most, since we evolved.  The intent of their remarks is…there is no reason to be concerned about pursuing righteousness or about God’s punishment for unrighteousness.

These people pursue their own lusts, scoffing at the idea that  a “loving God” wouldn’t judge them.  They foolishly claim that Christ was never going to return and that there is no such thing as a final accounting of God.

This was the attitude of some people surrounding the churches in the northern part of Asia Minor, the area of the world that Peter had sent his letters to.

Peter’s Validation –

People persistently IGNORE the OBVIOUS!!

VERSES 5 & 6 answers the previous arguments by reviewing ancient history:

slide_20

Scoffers, Naysayers reasoning is faulty.  If they don’t believe that EXISTENCE came into being by the Word of God, then all their reasoning is based on unsound evidence.  Here’s an example I found online (Google Image Search – Atheism):

THE SCOFFERS deliberately and “willingly” forget that God’s Word brought creation into existence and that He desires men to acknowledge it.  When the lives of these people MOCK God, willfully forget that God created EVERYTHING that exists.  God’s WORD created the Heavens and the Earth  (John 1:1-3 AMP):

[1]  IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.  [2] He was present originally with God.  [3] All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

And yet, NAYSAYERS deny that God CREATED the world in the beginning and deny that God would JUDGE the world at its conclusion.

CREATION though, was all due to the divine WORD of God:  “And God said…and God saw!” (Genesis 1).

There is no evolutionary concept of creation with the events taking place over millions or billions of years.

A DIRECT INTERVENTION BY GOD –

VERSE 6, is a direct intervention by God in the course of human history, “through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.”

The SCOFFERS’ claim is short-sighted and ignorant because they ignore the FACT that things haven’t continued as they were from the beginning.

In the previous verse, PETER stated that the UNIVERSE and all contained within it was created by the Word of God.

Now, PETER informs us that by the same WORD…JUDGMENT was rendered upon every living being in response to humanity’s WICKEDNESS.

He reminds us of the NAYSAYERS, the SCOFFERS, the MOCKERS of Noah’s day–decade after decade by his friends and neighbors as he was building the Ark.

Genesis 6-7 gives us clues that it took approximately 75 years to completion [Answers In Genesis – How Long Did It Take for Noah to Build the Ark?].  So imagine your neighbors laughing, jeering, thumbing their noses at you while working on a special project in your front yard after a few short years, much less 55-75 years!

Eventually, the collapse of the water canopy surrounding the earth caused RAIN to fall for the first time and the bursting forth of the underground water system resulted in a world-wide FLOOD.

2 Peter 3.6

In other words, people shouldn’t rely on false assumptions that God has little or nothing to do with the WORLD He created.  Instead, people must realize that by His WORD, He can create anything that He desires, and by His WORD, He can destroy anything that He has created!

GOD’S JUDGMENT (VERSE 7)

“But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been stored up (reserved) for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly people.”  [Amplified Bible]

“By the same WORD”, meaning the Word of God that brought existence into being (verse 5), and brought the watery destruction in Noah’s day (verse 6), by the same WORD, God also sustains His creation.

Moreover, there is a specific limitation to this world’s existence according to the sovereign will of Almighty God.  The POWER of the WORD which sustains ALL living things will one day release the FIRE of His JUDGMENT upon the world.

Over the years, I have heard people around me make jokes about God’s impending JUDGMENT.  I have seen cartoonist draw their caricatures of prophets of doom. But you can take this to the bank, on the fact that just as the world was flooded with water in days of old, it will one day be burned with FIRE  [Read Revelation 19:20; 20:10-15.  Isaiah 51:6; 66:15-16 and Malachi 4:10].

And at that time, the earth as we know it, will undergo a far greater impact of God than water.

The JUDGMENT OF FIRE refers to the day when God will come to judge the earth and destroy ALL evil!  (This is called the Day of the Lord in the Old Testament.)

The Lord Jesus will intervene in history by His second advent (coming) to institute His kingdom on earth.

In spite that the Lord hasn’t yet returned, the HOPE of His return is a present reality for those of us who are BELIEVERS–BORN AGAIN!!

The FLOOD and the future renovation of the earth by FIRE should remind us that God accomplishes what He purposes, and He has declared that Jesus Christ will come again (Acts 1:11).

Since man lost his RIGHTEOUSNESS and renounced the image of God that created him, there is no way he can escape the horrors of the JUDGMENT DAY.

All will perish because of their own SIN and their defiance of their Creator and rejecting their only Savior.  Only those in Jesus Christ escape this punishment.

Remember, “The payment for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord”  (Romans 6:23).

As surely as there is SALVATION for the believer, there is terrible JUDGMENT for the Naysayer, the Scoffer, scorner, and ungodly.

God has the end in mind and in sight!  God’s judgment is a call for the unbeliever to examine his sinful condition, and for the believer to be consistently obedient to His WORD.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT

Who is JESUS, Really?

00022902_hHebrews 1:1-3 (Amplified Bible):

IN MANY separate revelations [each of which set forth a portion of the Truth] and in different ways God spoke of old to [our] forefathers in and by the prophets.

[But] in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a ] Son, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also by and through Whom He created the worlds and the reaches of space and the ages of time [He made, produced, built, operated, and arranged them in order].

He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished our cleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high.

JESUS IS “BETTER” –

Jesus is BETTER, is mentioned thirteen times alone in the The Letter to the Hebrews— to show the superiority of JESUS to other religious systems.

  • Christ is “superior” than the angels (1:4).
  • Jesus brought a “better” hope (7:19), because He is the MEDIATOR of a “better” covenant…
  • Which was established upon “better” promises (8:6).

[Warren Wiersbe: “Be Confident” (Wheaton, Ill; Victor Books, 1982) p. 8]

THIS LETTER in Hebrews, is written to a group of people who are about ready to give up on their faith–

This group of Jewish Christians, who more than likely met together regularly, seemed to be at a standstill spiritually and in danger of going backwards (Hebrews 5:12).

They are urged strongly by the writer of the LETTER–take stock of what JESUS has to offer and not give into FEAR or DOUBT and stay the course:

“God spoke of old to [our] forefathers in and by the prophets, in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a ] Son…”  (verses 1 b. & 2 a.).

Ever since the world began, God has been speaking to His creation at different times and different ways; sometimes by direct communication, and sometimes through DREAMS & VISIONS.

But most of all, through His prophets.

IN BIBLICAL TIMES when a prophet of God spoke…His people listened.  The reason was simple:  When a prophet spoke, the people knew they were hearing from God.

The Apostle Peter says,

“For no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it [to do so–it never came by human impulse], but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit”  (2 Peter 1:21).

During the Old Testament Period…

GOD SPOKE to His people through the prophets.  This self-disclosure was timely and partial in nature and was spread over a period of at least 10 centuries and…it was given in a variety of means.

Today, GOD’S MESSAGE is no longer spoken through the prophets but is spoken through God’s very own Son, JESUS.

The prophets of old were merely instruments in the hand of God BUT…

He was the VISIBLE presence of the INVISIBLE God–

Formally, the REVELATION OF GOD was fragmentary but now it is COMPLETE!

Formally, it was PARTIAL, and now it is PERFECT!

Formally, it was PREPARATORY, but now it is FULFILLED!

God did not entrust His FULL REVELATION to be given by man…

God took the initiative to DECLARE it Himself through His Son.

As John MacArthur states in his commentary, “Every religion is but man’s attempt to discover God.  Christianity is God bursting into man’s world and showing and telling man what He is like.”  [John MacArthur: MacArthur’s New Testament Commentary – Hebrews (Chicago Moody Press 1983) p. 3 ]

THE “SEVEN GOOD REASONS” THAT JESUS IS SO MUCH BETTER!

While reading the three verses in Hebrews in study, I wrote down the reasons I found in my study notebook.

VERSE 2 –  “Who He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of ALL THINGS, also by and through Whom He created the world…”

VERSE 3 –  “the sole expression of the glory of God…upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His word of power…”

FIRST, He is Heir of All Things! (verse 2)

Since Jesus Christ is the Son and particularly the ONLY Son of God, He is also the HEIR, the sole HEIR of ALL THINGS.

He is the HEIR because and He is…

SECOND, He is the CREATOR of All Things!  (verse 2)

Colossians 1:16-17:

[16] For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him.

[17] And He Himself existed before all things, and in Him all things consist (cohere, are held together).

The Apostle Paul explains that ALL THINGS were created by Him and for Him.

John says, in the Gospel of John, that “All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being” (1:3).

Interestingly, it says in HEBREWS, “He created the worlds”.

The word translated “world” here is not the normal Greek word (kosmos), but rather (aionos), which means “the ages”.

JESUS not only made the universe but He brought SPACE, TIME AND MATTER into existence.

JESUS is He, Who was before history, at the beginning of history and will be at the end of history.

He is not only the OPERATOR of the Universe, but…

THIRD, He is the SUSTAINER of the Universe!  (verse 2)

Not only did JESUS “CREATE” ALL THINGS by His Word (John 1:1-5), but He also “UPHOLDS” ALL THINGS by the same powerful WORD.

“Consider…what instant destruction would happen if the earth’s rotation slowed down just a little.  The sun has a surface temperature of 12,000 degrees F.  If it were any closer to us we would burn up, it were any further away we would freeze.  Our globe is tilted on an exact angle of 23 degree, providing us with four seasons.  If it were not tilted, vapors from the oceans would move north and south and develop into monstrous continents of ice.  If the moon did not retain its exact distance from the earth, tides would flood the land completely, twice a day…If the atmosphere did not remain at its present density, but thinned out even a little, many of the meteors which now harmlessly burn up when they hit the atmosphere would constantly bombard us…How does the universe stay in this kind of fantastically delicate balance?  [MacArthur p. 17]

You can choose to “BELIEVE IT OR NOT”…But the evidence is laid out plainly in the Bible and that’s what I believe when the Word says, “Jesus maintains and sustains the balance of the universe.”

He is not only the SUSTAINER of the Universe, but…

FOURTH, He is the RADIANCE of God’s Glory!  (verse 3)

“He is the sole expression of the glory of God”

No mere prophet could ever make the claim.

FIFTH, He is the EXACT REPRESENTATION Of His Father!

“He is the PERFECT imprint and very IMAGE of [God’s] nature”

The word translated “IMAGE” (character) carries the idea that JESUS is the EXACTNESS of the very substance of God.  What we know of the CHARACTER OF GOD, we know through Christ Jesus!

At the beginning of the Gospel of John, an explanation is given to us clearly:

No man has ever seen God at anytime; the only unique Son, or the only begotten God,  Who is in the bosom [in the intimate presence] of the Father, He has DECLARED Him…  (John 1:18).

The word translated “declared” is literally (exegeomai – Greek), meaning He “exegeted”, or “explained” (New American Standard bible – NAS) Him.

The goal should be for every Bible Teacher, myself included, is to “exegete” or explain the Scripture,  JESUS exegeted or explained God.

Later in the Gospel, when the disciple Philip asked Jesus to show him the Father, He replied, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father…”  (John 14:9).

There is not one feature of God’s character that JESUS doesn’t reveal.

He not only is the EXACT REPRESENTATION of God the Father, BUT…

SIXTH, He is the REDEEMER of All Men!

“Offering Himself…cleansing us from our sins…”

When JESUS went to the CROSS, He solved the problem of SIN…Forever, Once for all time!

The apostle Peter puts it this way in 1 Peter 1:18-19:

[18] “You must know (recognize) that you were redeemed (ransomed) from the useless (fruitless) way of living inherited by tradition from [your] forefathers, not with corruptible things [such as] silver and gold.

[19] But [you were purchased] with the precious blood of Christ (the Messiah), like that of a [sacrificial] lamb without blemish or spot.”

JESUS is not only the REDEEMER OF MANKIND, but…

SEVENTH, He is RULER of the Universe!

“when He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high”

That phrase is ‘mind-blowing’ to me as I began to think and meditate deeply of its implications to all of mankind.

“He sat down.”

Few other statements in the Bible are filled with such great importance.  In my research, I came upon the following noteworthy commentary by Marv Rosenthal:

“We know a great deal about the temple (in Jerusalem) and its furnishings, but fascinately, there were no chairs in this billion dollar building that took 48 years to complete.  There were no chairs because the priests of Israel never sat down.  They never sat down because their work was never done.  Their work was never done because the blood of bulls and goats could never take away sin.  It was a stop-gap, it was temporary, it was incomplete.  And so, priest after priest, course after course, year after yer, century after century, with monotonous repetition, would come to the Temple and they would function, but they would never sit down.  They could never rest for their work was never done, the task was never complete”  [See Footnote [i]].

BUT JESUS once for all time paid the PENALTY FOR SIN!

And so Jesus offered Himself as the “once for all time” SACRIFICE for sin.

The work was  now completed and never gain to be repeated.

“He sat down”–that the significance of Christ’s Words from the Cross when He shouted (telestai)

“It is finished” (John 19:30).

And then “He sat down”–His work is finished.

“He sat down”–His position is fixed.

None of the angels held such a position of honor in heaven.

Seated in Honor JESUS remains SUPERIOR!
