MY FRIEND’S NUMBERS KEEP GOING DOWN ON MY FACEBOOK PAGE
I wonder what Facebook’s definition or their idea of the word, FRIENDS? So many times I read comments on social media of people who claim 100’s, or even thousands of friends. So what do most us think of people we know, that are our FRIENDS? A companion, our next door neighbor who we barely know, the person in the next cubicle at work, etc.? Proverbs in the Bible is a good source of wisdom regarding friendship: “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity” (Proverbs 17:17). “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). The issue here is that in order to have a friend, one must be a friend. I’ve been reading in the Old Testament Book of Amos for the last few weeks and found a principle of friendship in Amos 3:3– “Do two walk together except they make an appointment and have agreed?” (AMP). FRIENDS ARE OF A LIKE MIND!! And then of course, one of my favorite Bible verses regarding true friendship is found in the Gospel of John:
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
Now that’s true friendship.
