Living In the Millennial City; The Land of “NO MORES”

The Millennial Capital

In 1980, the company that I was working for in Southern California, presented my family and I with a terrific opportunity (I thought).  Taking over as Branch Manager of their location in Washington state.  We had visited the great Northwest on vacations, even thought the area might be good to raise a young family in.  So, I cautiously–no, I jumped at the opportunity, as we all went forth while praying.

Since I needed to be in place by March  and our three kids needed to finish their school year– and the house needed to be sold, I came up to the unknown territory by myself, to a place called THERE.  I had no idea where we were going to live, what schools our children would attend, types of clothing we all needed (we had lived in Southern California all our lives), etc., etc.  I knew that God would answer our specific prayers on what to do, where to live and all the rest BUT…if I only knew for sure of His promises before leaving Southern California.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we knew when the Lord called us home in death or in the Rapture, we would be with Him in heaven.  Here comes another BUTBut how about the ‘and-after-thats’ that arise in our up-coming destination?– the topics of conversation and doctrines in the church are sometimes…confusing and need clearer explanations.  What will we be like and what will we do in the 1000-year reign of Christ on earth?  Will all we do is just pray, worship and sing hallelujah?  Not that isn’t a good thing BUT…   I decided to start my investigation with the TRUTH of God’s Word on such mattesr and the discernment that the Holy Spirit gives to enlighten the results of my findings and maybe answer some questions.

“The distance around the city shall be 18,000 [4 x 4,500] measures; and the name of the city from that day and ever after sha be, THE LORD IS THERE”  (Ezekiel 48:35 AMP).

“It had a massive and high wall with twelve [large] gates, and at the gates [there were stationed] twelve angels, and [on the gates] the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were written:”  [12]

“On the east side three gates, on the north side three gates, on the south side three gates, and on the west side three gates.” [13]

“The city lies in a square, its length being the same as its width.  And he measured the city with his reed—12,000 stadia (about 1500 miles); its length and width and height are the same.”  [16]  (Revelation 21:12, 13, 16 AMP).

Now there is some specific details of an area that you might be going to someday and living there for a 1000 years.  You will only be able to actually visualize that if you are or become a “overcomer“!

“Who will occupy the Millennial City?”

There will be two distinct groups occupying the Earth:

1.  Those with glorified bodies.

2.  Those with earthly bodies; those who lived through the Tribulation, continuing into the Millennial Kingdom.

Those with glorified bodies (the Church) receives glorified bodies at the Rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:21-23, 51-53).  Those who have earthly bodies will be subdivided into two groups:

1.  Believing gentiles.

2.  Believing Jews (Israel).

There can be some confusion on this matter.  Revelation 19:11-16 is about Jesus’ second coming.  The Rapture, as it is called; the “taking up” ; “caught up”) at the appearing of Christ in the air, is NOT His second coming.

In the Bible, there is the distinction between the Rapture and Jesus’ second coming; there is no mention of the Rapture in Revelations 19 thru 20.  The implication is that the saints who are on the Earth when Christ returns remain on Earth, entering the millennial kingdom in their natural bodies The only event resulting in believers receiving ‘glorified bodies‘ is found in Revelation 20:4-6.  They become believers during the tribulation; then are martyred because of their faith and then resurrected, receiving glorified bodies (Daniel 12:2).

In Matthew 25:31-46 gives us a clear picture of the separation; the righteous and the unrighteous Gentiles.  Jesus will judge the unrighteous Gentiles (goats) and cast them into the Lake of Fire in eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46).  No unbelieving Gentile will survive living on into the Millennial Kingdom.

The righteous Gentiles (sheep) will live on into the Millennial Kingdom; give birth to children and populate the Earth.  They will not be the only ones producing children.  Remember, in the Book of Exodus, Jacob and his family entered Egypt with 70 people and livestock.  Some 430 years later, the Israelites grew to 600,000 men on foot, besides women and children (over 1-million plus; Exodus 12:37-41).

On Christ’ return, Israel will trust in Jesus (Zechariah 12:10; Rev. 1:7).  They won’t receive glorified bodies and they too will produce children.  So, believing Gentiles, Israel, the resurrected raptured believers (all who have resurrected bodies) will occupy the Earth.  It should be noted, however, believers with glorified bodies will not be reproducing.  There is no marriage after this life (Matthew 22:30).

These children born will grow up having the responsibility of faith in Christ as all people of past ages have (faith in Christ since His coming); and faith in God before, Genesis 15:2-6; Habakkuk 2:4; Romans 3:20.  Unfortunately, not all children born will come to faith in Christ.  Those who do not will be led into rebellion by Satan at the end of the millennium, when Satan is set loose for a short time (Rev. 20:7-10).

Who will then live in the millennial city? The given answer is found in the following Scriptures:  Isa. 2:2-4; Zech. 14:8-21; Ezek. 34:17-24; Dan. 7:13-14; Mic. 4:1-5.

Millennium comes from the Latin “mille” or “a thousand”, “annus” means a  “year”.

At this time the Kingdom of God will be made manifest worldwide and affecting every sphere of life on Earth:

economic, etc.

They will be initiated by Jesus’ coming:  Rev. 19:11 -20:6; Isaiah 9:6-9; Psalm 2; Acts 3:21.  Kings of the earth will be saved and worship Jesus (Psalms 72:11; 102:15; 138:4; 148:11; Isaiah 62:2; Revelation 21:24), basing their national governments on His Word.  The results during the 1000-year period?

1.  PEACE.

“Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him, all nations shall serve Him”  (Psalm 72:11).

“All the kings of the land shall give You credit and praise You, O Lord, for they have heard of the promises of Your mouth [which were fulfilled]”  (Psalm 138:4 AMP).

“And on His garment (robe) and on His thigh He has a name (title) inscribed, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS”  (Rev. 19:16 AMP).

He will govern a worldwide Kingdom from Jerusalem (THE LORD IS THEREEzek. 48:35) with two sets of kings: the Millennial kings with non-resurrected bodies and the resurrected kings (the saints).  Together they will establish a basically based social order affecting every sphere of life (Isa. 2:1-4; 9:6-9; 11:1-16; 60-62; 65:17-25; Acts 3:21).

The saints with resurrected bodies are counted worthy in their time on Earth.  They will be made kings and priests to His God and Father (Revelation 1:5-6).

(26)  “He who overcomes I will give power to sit with Me on My throne”

(27)  “he shall rule them”  (Revelation 2:26-27).

The two functions most emphasized for the saint (Priests and Kings)--Rev. 1:6; 5:10; 20:6.  They will worship, intercede, communicate the knowledge of God to others who are on Earth during the millennium; the non-resurrected people and to the saints and angels in the New Jerusalem.

The saints will reign (rule) with judicial responsibility and authority given to evaluate the past (judging); determining action plans for the future of the people. and the areas that they will rule over.  The saints will rule/judge angels (1 Cor. 6:2).

“Of the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from the [later] time forth, even forever more. The zeal of the Lord of host will perform this”  (Isaiah 9:7 AMP).

His government will spread to all nations (Isaiah 16:5; Jerm. 23:5):

— Social improvements.

— Healing of the nations will be progressive; not instantaneous.  The Tree of Life will minister to the leaders of the nations promoting healing to their nation.  What kind of healing? Both physical and spiritual healing:

“Through the middle of the broadway of the city; also, on either side of the river was the tree of life with its twelve varieties of fruit, yielding each month its fresh crop; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing and the restoration of the nations”  (Revelations 22:2).

To the measure that wisdom is learned and applied in many areas of life progressively improve: vegetation, economy, longevity of life, technology, science, etc..  It will take a 1000 years for righteousness to spread and fully mature in every area of every nation before the final testing (Rev. 20:7-8).

Life in this age can be likened to a 70-year internship (Psalm 90:10), preparing us for our life to come in the age to come.  Our next stage of life in the Millennium, when our primary ministry calling begins, last for a 1000-years (Rev. 20:4-6).

Our 7–year internship has two issues to determine at this point:  To decide if we want to be in God’s family as voluntary lovers; To decide if we want to function in Jesus’ government (initially for 1000-years) then for all eternity.

The measure that we develop in our internship is:

Revelation (of His Word)

Those qualities will determine our place and function in His eternal government (Matt. 7:14; 19:30; 20:16, 20-27; 22:14; Lk. 13:34).  Our ministry in the age to come has nothing to do with how much we accomplish outwardly in this age.  It’s how much we develop inwardly; the choices we make in our 70-year internship.  The choices we made determine where and how we will function in the 1000-yer ministry assignment.

Being a OVERCOMER now!

Jesus gave a great promise to the compromising church in Laodicea.  He motivated them to resist compromise and passivity, then offered them a place in His Millennial government; the same way Jesus motivated Peter, John and the other apostles:

“He who overcomes (is victorious), I will grant him to sit beside Me on My throne, as I Myself overcame (was victorious) and sat down beside My Father on His throne”  (Revelation 3:21).

What will living in the New Jerusalem be like in the Millennial Kingdom?  I will try to uncover the truths in Scripture in PART TWO of “Living In the Millennial City; The Land of “NO MORES’.  If you have enjoyed PART ONE, you will love PART TWO in this series.
