Does God Want You Poor?

Does God Want Us To Beg?
3  John 2
“Beloved, I pray that you may
prosper in every way and [that
your body] may keep well, even
as [I know] your soul keeps well
and prospers.”
When the United States officially went into recession in December 2007, I began to notice how Christians were responding to its effects. It was disturbing to find many believers did not know how to use their faith to win in the midst of troubled times.”  from Winning in Troubled Times by Dr. Creflo Dollar.
“The Blessing” :
Proverbs 10:22  “THE BLESSING of the Lord–it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it].”  Amplified Version
I believe that the church has desynthesized the word “BLESSING” down through the years and now today’s believers have a misunderstanding of the word.
BLESSING is the empowerment; an ability that God puts on you.  His super on your natural; an anointing has taken place.
When the blessing is on you, you won’t stay the same.  Revelation 3:17 says,  “For you say, I am rich, I have prospered and grown wealthy, and I am in need of nothing …”   If that is what you think “being blessed” is all about, you need to continue reading the rest of the verse:
“…you do not realize and understand that you are wretched,  pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.”
Rich doesn’t mean what you have deposited in your banking account.  I am not talking about what comes to your mind when you hear the term, “Boy, is that guy rich!”  The Bible says rich means “wholeness”; it’s more than material goodies.
Wholeness means, “nothing broken, nothing missing.”  “THE BLESSING” will always attack LACK!
Webster’s New Universal Unabridged Dictionary defines an investment:  “The investing of money or capital in order to gain profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation of value.”
Matthew 7:12 says,  “So then, whatever you desire that others would do to and for you, even so do also to and for them, for this is (sums up) the Law and the Prophets.”
MONEY is a “Blessing”:
I have explained to you what “The blessing” is, and now what “a blessing” is about.
“A blessing comes to us from “The blessing”; God’s favor flowing through us, in order to bless others.”  God never does it for us!  He does it through us for somebody else. We are BLESSED to be a BLESSING.  “Thank you Lord for making me prosperous.  Now where do you want me to put it? Where should I make an investment?”  As believers, that should be each one’s prayer.
POSITIVE verses for Prosperity and Wealth:
Since the Scriptures tell us we should be examples in the world as Jesus was, then lets look at Jesus as our example.
John 19:23-24:  (23)  “Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments (clothing) and made four parts, one share for each soldier, and also the tunic (the long shirt like undergarment).  But the tunic was seamless, woven [in one piece] from the top throughout.”  (24)  “So they said to one another, Let us not tear it, but let us cast lots to decide whose it shall be. This was to fulfill the Scripture,  They parted My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots. So the soldiers did these things.”  [Psalm 22:18]
According to Jewish custom regarding the clothing or dress worn, the tunic worn my almost every man is what is described in John 19.  Harper’s Bible Dictionary gives a brief outline of what men’s clothing consisted of:
“New Testament language for general clothing items includes reference to an oblong outer garment [Matt. 17:2; 27:31] worn over a coat [Matt. 5:40, Luke 6:29, “shirt”].  With the outer clothing mentioned, were worn certain items as undergarments. A long or half-sleeved, ankle-length shirt in white or colors was used both men and women.”  The guards in John 19:23, separated not tear into four parts Jesus clothing. They would not have cast lots over torn, tattered clothing from a poor beggar.  Hollywood’s images of what Jesus looked like at the time of His crucifixion is out of sort.  Jesus was NOT POOR and His clothing did not show it!  He even had a treasurer accompany Him and His disciples. And His treasurer, Judas was pilfering money from the purse.  Yet there was always enough to even buy “meat”.  Have you ever heard of a poor boy with a sign held up in front of him that said “PLEASE”?  Jesus wasn’t POOR and He doesn’t want us to be poor either.
How about the “POOR”?
Job 27 gives a description of how the poor and needy lived and dressed:
Verses 5-7   (5)  “[the poor] go forth to their work, seeking diligently for prey and food…”  (6)  “They reap each one his fodder in a field [that is not his own], and glean the vintage of the wicked man.”   (7)  “They lie all night naked, without clothing, and have no covering in the cold.”
Things had not changed for the poor in Jesus time on earth.  So was Jesus considered to be “poor” based on the Bible?
More Positive Verses Regarding Prosperity:
Ecclesiastes 5:18-19
Malachi 3:10,  “pour you out a blessing…”
Luke 6:38
John 10:10
NEGATIVE Verses that supposedly counter “prosperity”:
Psalm 49:16-20  “You can’t take it with you” repeated comment.  The Rebuttal:  Being a blessing is the Word of God. You can believe it while you are still here!
Matthew 6:19-21  Where your treasure is.  If you are in “lack”, you can’t be a blessing.
Mark 10:23-25  “Trusting in Riches”.    That’s called “attachment”; that has nothing to do with prosperity.
Luke 12:31-33    It’s important to help the poor!   BUT you can’t help if you are in “lack”.
Line up the “POSITIVES” and the “NEGATIVE” Scriptures regarding “prosperity” on a piece of paper.  Remember, PROSPERITY and WEALTH doesn’t have to be financial.  It is WHOLENESS; in your health, in your deliverance, in your relationships and yes…in your finances.  Don’t let the world tell you what the Bible says [“the root of all evil is money”]. That is incorrect! The verse found in I Timothy 6:10, says “The LOVE of money…”  If you have wrong words coming into your ears and heart, you won’t have confidence in God’s Word.  We do error if we don’t read and believe the word of God.  WISDOM is knowing what to do when you don’t know what to do.
