Todays blog is the second in the series of “The Order of a Prosperous Life“.
In the early 80’s, Dianne and I were attending our daughter’s High School Graduation in Auburn, Washington. It was a sunny day and at that time of the year in Washington State, that’s unusual. We were sitting in the grandstand seats of the football stadium, when a young man walked to the podium to address the seniors and their guests. I can’t remember the speech in its entirety but I do remember his opening statement. “When in high school you ask a question of a teacher and they can’t give you an answer, it’s always someone elses fault. Like, why do we have to fill out a questionnaire in class and use a #2 lead pencil and no other? If we ask the teacher why a #2 pencil only? It’s because “THEY”, tell us so. Who are the THEY’s in the world?”
That is a good question to ask ourselves. Who are the “THEY’s in the Kingdom of God (K.O.G.)? Turn with me in your bibles to the Book of Job, Chapter 36.
Verse 11 reads, “If THEY obey and serve Him, THEY shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness and joy.”
In Job 36:11, the THEY’s are those who obey and serve Him. Hopefully, that is you and me. According to the Word, before we see success, pleasantness and joy in this life, we are going to have to do something; “Let your do’s be do’s and don’t do the don’ts“. To become “Successful” in the Kingdom of God, we have to obey and serve Him. Of course if obedience is out of the question then the results are obvious; LACK!!!
I have found in searching for the facts in this investigation, there are some specific clues in finding true prosperity.
Clue #1. Understand God’s way of doing things. Matthew 6:33 says, “BUT seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His Kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then ALL these things taken together will be given you besides.” Seek means to search or research God’s Word and meaning. There is a FORCE behind knowledge and understanding. Information alone isn’t enough and when you understand, you get revelation.
Mark 4:9 says, “And He said, He who has ears to hear, let him be hearing [and let him consider, and comprehend].” Verses 11, 13-33 continues with this important clue in understanding God’s way of doing things. Mark explains that the K.O.G. system is like farmer.
Verse 14, “The sower sows the Word.” God, the Farmer sows the Word seed. I love to sow vegetable seeds every year. I have learned by years of experience, if I don’t plant the seed in good soil, the results will be lacking. God invented this gardening principle; He plants His Word seed in good soil; in the heart of man.
Verse 20, “And those [seeds] sown [by speaking the Word] on the good (well-adapted) soil are the ones who hear the Word and receive and accept and welcome it and bear fruit…” Preparation brings fruitfulness or success— “some thirty times as much as was sown, some sixty times as much, and some [even] a hundred times as much.”
In Verse 24, Jesus explains how His way of doing things works. “And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you–and more [besides] will be given to you who hear.”
Now if we want to become “Successful” and “Prosperous” in the K.O.G., we might want to examine our motives, our journey in obtaining the prize. I want to look at another clue I uncovered about becoming “Successful”.
Clue #2. “Everything hangs on the Law of Love”. It is not enough to have just the knowledge. You must have developement or maturity in LOVE. We can’t prosper if we refuse to develop in LOVE. Curtains over your windows hang from a curtain rod. If that rod should come off the rod hooks, the curtains will slide and fall to the floor. They need the rod to hold them up.
Matthew 22:37-40 the Pharisees had asked Jesus a question regarding the Law. ‘Now there are some light commandments and there are some heavy ones. What say you JESUS?’
“And He replied to him, You should love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). This is the great (most important principle) and first commandment, And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.”
I used to wonder, “Who is Jesus referring to when He says I am to love my neighbor?” It would be nice if He was referring to my “Christian neighbor”; but no, He was referring to all of my neighbors. That is not easy but then again my neighbor might think the same way about me. Your LOVE connection in the neighborhood will bring success.
Verse 40, sums up Jesus answer. “These two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Jesus wasn’t giving the Pharisees a choice to pick from in His answer. This was God’s command! You won’t be successful if you refuse to mature in the Word. How do we start the LOVE process to mature in the K.O.G. ?
We will pick up this LOVE CONNECTION to Prosperity in Galatians 3:29; 4:1-3 in the next blog.
