What is a Sacrificial Praise?

Get your Bible and turn with me to Hebrews 13:15,16 as we meditate and understand together the meaning of New Covenant Sacrifice.

vs. 15:  “Through Him, therefore, let us constantly and at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise,  which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name.”  [Lev. 7:12; Isa. 57:19; Hos. 14:2]

vs. 16:  “Do not forget or neglect to do kindness and good, to be generous and distribute and contribute to the needy [of the church as embodiment and proof of fellowship]. for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”  [amplified version]

What then is a Sacrifice of Praise as described in Hebrews?  In verse 15, it says it’s “the fruit of lips”.  We are to “thankfully acknowledge” with our mouths with words of thankfulness;  make confessions in areas of our lives where we missed the mark; and glorify His name.  That sounds like a commandment to me. Check out Psalm 50:14, 23; Psalm 86:9, 12; Psalm 87:3.  It IS a commandment!

Now, confessing with your lips should be a celebration.  An open acknowledgement that we are His worshippers, His servants and His followers.  Glory and Worship are interchangeable words along with Praise.  Psalm 9 says “my glory” is my inner self.  Based on that information, with understanding I can say that PRAISE  should be given in respect of God’s Glory.  If all of this thinking has got you confused, keep looking for wisdom and understanding.  Remember, it can’t be a sacrifice unless it cost you something.  Any comments today?
